When to Listen...

I thought I would work out on Wednesday, but my body told me otherwise. I have been pushing pretty hard, and I really ached. Not the ache you get from being sick, but an ache of over-training. Coaching high school basketball for 15 years has given me an insight to over-training,but I never thought it might happen to me. I made the decision to take a weekday off. This paid dividends to me, as I was able to easily complete the Back and Biceps workout of P90X today. I now look forward to my daily workouts, and I thank the motivation provided by the paper to keep me on track...I continue to lose slow and steady!

P90X Continues

Glad to see everyone was doing well in the weigh-in...I am especially interested to see how the increase in my strength equates to my golf game. I anticipate gaining some distance and touch now that my stomach is not in the way of my swing. I find P90X still hard, but easier if that makes sense. I find myself still struggling with the length of 1 hour, but I cannot quibble with the results. I can wear pants that I have not worn in 2-3 years, and sleep better than ever... I just need to continue....

Weight vs. Inches...

Not sure what my results might be on Saturday, as I was in Columbus today, and am scheduled to go to a fish fry Friday night. I do know that I am steadily losing weight, and that the inches are falling off, even if the pounds may not necessarily be. The P90X is very hard work, and I am much stronger in round 3 than I was in round 1. I hope to lose on the "official" scale, as I am losing on my scale at home. The 1, 2, or 3 pounds I lose per week is fine with me, as I am putting on muscle as well....I look forward to Saturday....

Through the Glass Ceiling (or Floor)....

In the past, when I have tried to lose weight, I have been stuck a plateau level...just around 291 or so. Well, I am glad to report that I was able to break through and see (finally) 289 on the scale. This is encouraging as it tells me that I have been doing things the right way (slow and steady). I even lost during the recovery phase of P90X. That is now over - I am beginning Phase 3 today - 6 days before the next weigh in. I might not lose as much as some of the other contestants this month, but it is a steady loss....I am looking forward to Saturday!

St. Patrick's Day

This has always been a very uneventful holiday for me. My soon-to-be wife made delicious corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, and onions in the crock pot, and I did have some. No alcohol, not a huge fan of it...Also, was very tired, so no Nike BOOM! workout today. I expect to lose a pound or two this week, as it is the recovery week for P90X before I go back to another tough round of 3 week workouts. I look forward to the weigh-ins, and am still trying hard to get down into the 280's for the weigh-in. The good news is that I am not gaining any weight, and the P90X "Muscle Confusion" principle should alleviate any plateau effect that I might have. See you soon....on the golf course!

Nike BOOM!

I recently found a great app for my iPod...However, it is also available for smartphones as well, like my DroidX...It's called Nike BOOM! and it seamlessly merges your selected playlists and inspirational messages from top athletes and coaches from a variety of sports. It is also able to be synced with your facebook account, and if a friend "likes" you workout or gives you a supporting message, it comes through right as you workout. I am in the recovery week for P90x, so I am hitting the elliptical pretty hard...This BOOM! app is really great, and very motivating...I encourage all of you to give it a try! It is available in the ITunes store, and the Android Market Place...It's great!

Snow Day=Extra Workout!

I've been given a golden chance today - we have a snow day! Tonight is the fundraiser for my high school golf team (I am the coach), and I was worried that I would not be able to fit in the full hour workout given to me by Tony Horton and the P90x crew, as I had to get ready for the event. With Mother Nature cooperating, I can now exercise in the morning, and prepare for the fundraiser, and all the running around that I have to do. I have gotten compliments from people about how my shape is changing, and my clothes are fitting better. I tried on some golf pants at a store last weekend, and they fit, just a little too snug at this point. I will use that as motivation. I also notice that some are losing their motivation, so I try to keep on pushing play on the P90X DVD's. I also saw on Facebook that they are coming out with a new P90X! I don't think I can handle that. I look forward to the weigh-in at my house on Sunday morning....I hope to be under 290 for the first time in many years...This is the plateau that I have struggled to break. I am confident it will occur...The steps I am taking have produced a slow, sustained weight loss, and I expect that success to continue!

14.5!

A small milestone was reached this weekend. In other times when I have attempted to lose weight, I have been stalled at about 293 pounds. I am happy to say that I was able to move past that to 291.5! I was concerned that I might not lose any this week, but I did! I am very motivated to keep up my habits and weight loss. I was originally worried that I only lost 7.6 pounds, but I feel that this is a marathon rather than a sprint. I am encouraged by the fact that I have not plateaued, and that the P90X keeps that from happening. My workouts are continuing, and clothes are continuing to look and feel better. I hope to surpass the 290 mark this week. We will see....
